Motorcycle Track Days
Everything specific to taking your bike on track
How Bike Days Differ
- Usually grouped by pace (Novice/Intermediate/Fast)
- Sessioned format (20-minute sessions typical)
- More emphasis on safety gear standards
- Different lines and braking points than cars
- Weather affects bikes more significantly
Bike Preparation
Essential Prep
- Remove/tape mirrors and lights
- Lock-wire oil filler and drain plugs (some organisers)
- Check chain tension and condition
- Fresh brake pads if less than 50%
- Tape over speedo (no distractions)
- Remove number plate
Recommended
- Crash protection (frame sliders, case covers)
- Aftermarket levers (fold on impact)
- Tank grips for better body position
- Tyre warmers (for fast group)
Safety Gear Requirements
Requirements are stricter than car track days and rigorously enforced
- Helmet: ACU Gold or ECE 22.05 (no older than 5 years)
- Leathers: One-piece or 2-piece with 360° zip
- Gloves: Full gauntlet with wrist retention
- Boots: Full height with ankle protection
- Back protector: CE approved if not in leathers
Riding Tips
- Body position is crucial - get off the bike in corners
- Trail braking helps turn-in
- Use reference points for braking
- Smooth throttle application on exit
- Look through corners, not at them
- Relax your arms - grip with legs
Group Selection
Novice/Slow: First timers, building confidence
Intermediate: Confident riders, working on technique
Fast/Advanced: Experienced, quick pace, may require lap time evidence
Start in a slower group - you can always move up, but starting too fast is dangerous
