Aftercare & Maintenance for Track Bikes
Keep your bike healthy between track days
Post Track Day Checklist
Within 24-48 hours of returning:
Visual Inspection
- Check for oil leaks (engine, forks, shock)
- Inspect bodywork for cracks
- Look for loose bolts/fasteners
- Check chain and sprockets
- Examine brake pads thickness
- Inspect tyre condition
Clean and Protect
- Wash off brake dust and rubber
- Clean chain and relubricate
- WD40 on exposed metal
- Check and clean air filter
Chain and Sprockets
Track use is harsh on drivetrain:
- Clean and lube after every track day
- Check tension (may need adjustment)
- Inspect for tight spots
- Look for hooked sprocket teeth
- Replace as set when worn
Use O-ring compatible chain lube only
Brake System
After Each Track Day
- Measure pad thickness (replace at 2-3mm)
- Check disc thickness
- Look for pad deposits on discs
- Inspect brake lines for wear
- Check fluid level and color
Brake Fluid
- Change every 6-12 months
- Use quality DOT4 or DOT5.1
- Bleed if lever feels spongy
- Check for moisture content
Engine and Fluids
Oil Changes
- Every 2-3 track days
- Use fully synthetic
- Check level before each session
- Look for metal in oil
- Change filter every time
Coolant System
- Check level when cold
- Look for leaks at joints
- Flush annually
- Use proper coolant (not water)
- Check radiator for damage
Suspension
- Check for fork seal leaks
- Inspect shock for oil leaks
- Verify settings haven't changed
- Service per manufacturer schedule
- Check linkage bearings

Common Track Bike Issues
- Overheating: Check coolant level, radiator blockage
- False neutrals: Clutch adjustment or wear
- Brake fade: Fluid needs changing
- Suspension harsh: Service needed
- Engine rattle: Check cam chain tension
Winter Storage
If laying up for winter:
- Fresh oil change before storage
- Full tank with stabilizer
- Battery on tender
- Tyres off ground if possible
- Fog cylinders with oil
- Cover but allow ventilation
Maintenance Tips
- Keep a log book
- Use quality fluids
- Don't skip services
- Address issues early
